Abstract
1) Ten cases of complete rectal prolapse on whom the David Modification of De¢¥Lorme operation performed are presented, and a brief review was made on the etiology, differential diagnosis and surgical treatement of prolapse of rectum.
2) Among the important etiologies were altered bowel habit and some other exciting causes. None of these patients were considered to have constitutional and neurogenic disorders.
3) Although some type of transabdominal procedures might be advocated for the good risk patient in the younger age group, the De¢¥lorme operation has been the most commonly used procedure in our clinic to the patient with a non-massive prolapse and who is reluctant to undergo the abdominal procedures as an initial operation.
The result of the operation in our hands has been largely satisfactory, even though the follow-up period is not long enough.
It is a our contention that the procedure is more suitable for the patient with relatively mild degree of rectal prolapse. We have favored the transabdominal procedures when the De¢¥lorme operation did not satisfy us.
